10-11 March 2008, Singapore
1ST RAFFLES INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION 2008 "INTERWEAVING CURRICULUM
AND COMMUNITY"
The role of education is to prepare
our young for the challenges of the future. For an educational
system to remain relevant and effective, the curriculum
designed and delivered in schools must respond to the
changing needs and demands of the community and society.
Today, many schools actively collaborate
with community partners to develop programmes that equip
students with the skills needed for the real world.
Community partners, such as tertiary institutions, businesses,
parents’ groups, non-governmental organizations
(NGOs) and government agencies, have direct influence
over the scope and depth of the academic and non-academic
curriculum in schools. The learning environment of today
is no longer confined to the traditional classroom but
is extended to the real world beyond.
The theme of the inaugural Raffles
International Conference on Education 2008 (RICE 2008)
is “Interweaving Curriculum and Community”.
It will focus on the symbiotic relationship between
the educational curriculum and the community, and explore
how this relationship has resulted in innovations in
education, adding value to students’ learning
and re-defining educators’ focus on the curriculum.
